A FEW THINGS TO CONSIDER:
Some people choose to self-pay for services despite having insurance coverage. Reasons why:
Insurance companies require a diagnosis. Although mental health diagnoses are considered protected health information under HIPAA, some prefer not to have a label due to stigma and perceived implications diagnoses may have on employment, future insurance coverage, relationships, etc.
Insurance companies might ask for additional information in order to decide how much treatment will be covered based on medical necessity
Some insurance providers set limitations on session length, type of therapy provided and number of sessions per year
Self-pay services allow clients increased privacy and control over their treatment.
